X. SHORT VISION ↔ LONG VISION

This becomes especially significant as the child becomes more upright and environmentally engaged.
You described children who remain developmentally stressed around rolling at seven months and do not have good independent sitting.
One visual consequence you observe is that the child's visual organization can become very short.
The child then has difficulty transitioning:
short → long → short
rather than simply having “near vision” and “distance vision.”
This is another major Turner distinction.
The developmental question is not only:
Can the child see something far away?
It is whether the visual system can organize the change in spatial relationship and then reorganize when the relationship changes again.

 

XI. ACTIVE / PASSIVE CONVERGENCE

This should become a major Turner Vision concept.
I would not write the formal definition yet because I want it directly from you/source material rather than completing it myself.
But we now know the territory it belongs to.
It involves your observation of visual organization across changing spatial relationships, including the child's ability to organize from short vision to long vision and back toward short.
So this should eventually contain:
Your formal definition
Developmental emergence
Active component
Passive component
Short/long visual relationship
Relationship with sitting/upright organization
What interruption looks like
Functional consequences
How you assess it
That could become an important standalone section of Turner Vision.

 

XII. VISION THROUGH MOVEMENT

Once the child begins rolling, sitting, reaching, crawling, transitioning and eventually standing, visual organization cannot remain dependent upon a static body.
Vision has to remain available through movement.
That gives us another progression:
Vision while relatively stable → vision during developmental movement → vision during transitions → vision while independently navigating the environment
The question becomes:
Does visual organization remain available while the child moves?
rather than simply:
Can the child see while sitting still?

 

XIII. ENVIRONMENTAL VISUAL FUNCTION

Now the child's visual world becomes increasingly complex.
Near and far.
Right and left.
Center and peripheral information.
Stationary and moving.
Simple and complex environments.
Known and unknown objects.
Changing body positions.
Changing visual demands.
The child must increasingly organize vision within an environment, not simply demonstrate an isolated visual function during an assessment.
This is where your distinction between visual function and functional vision becomes increasingly important.

 

XIV. FIND THE STRESS

This should probably sit at the center of the entire Turner Vision graphic.
The purpose of knowing the developmental sequence is not to grade the child against a timeline.
It gives us a reference against which we can locate developmental stress.
For example:
Observed: Child isn't independently sitting.
The conventional response could become:
Work on sitting.
Turner Vision asks something different.
Where did organization become stressed?
Was visual access adequately established?
Are the eyes organizing together?
Is convergence available?
Is developmental center available?
Is midline interrupted?
Is there esotropia?
Are the hands and feet organizing toward center?
Is weight transfer available?
Can visual organization move from short to long and return?
Does organization change with body position?
The missing milestone is therefore evidence.
It is not automatically the location of the problem.

 

XV. THE TURNER VISION STRESS PATHWAY

I think this could become the central decision pathway visually:

1. Establish Visual Access

Can visual information adequately enter the system?

2. Examine Ocular Structure

Is there something requiring ophthalmologic/optometric assessment or intervention?

3. Examine Eye Function

Right / left / binocular / convergence / following / tracking / midline

4. Examine Developmental Organization

Center / hands / feet / weight transfer / transitions / developmental movement

5. Examine Environmental Visual Function

Short / long / peripheral / movement / complexity / changing spatial relationships

6. Examine Neurological Visual Processing

Only after earlier levels have been appropriately considered.

7. Locate the Stress

Where does organization first become inconsistent, interrupted, weak, asymmetric, unavailable, or compensatory?

8. Determine the Starting Point

Not:
“What milestone should we practice?”
But:
“What organization needs support for the milestone to become available?”

 

XVI. WHY THIS MATTERS FOR PARENTS AND PROFESSIONALS

This is where your framework potentially resolves a very practical problem.
Different professionals may legitimately describe different parts of the same child.
The vision professional sees one thing.
The PT sees another.
The OT sees another.
The physician sees another.
The teacher sees another.
The parent sees that their child still cannot sit, crawl, walk, reach, eat, attend, or participate.
The language fragments.
Turner Vision can provide a developmental organizational structure in which those observations can be considered in relationship rather than as isolated deficits.
The goal isn't for one discipline to replace another.
The goal is to answer the parent's practical question:

Where is the stress, and what does my child need us to work on?

XVII. THE VISUAL I WOULD BUILD FROM THIS

Rather than the AI-generated month-by-month graphic we just made, I think your real Turner Vision graphic should resemble the sophistication of your Organizational Lifecycle image.
At its center:

 

FUNCTIONAL VISUAL ORGANIZATION

Surrounding it could be the developmental cycle:
Visual Access → Binocular Organization → Convergence → Developmental Center → Midline → Weight Transfer → Spatial Organization → Vision Through Movement → Environmental Vision → Functional Independence
And underneath it:

 

THE TURNER QUESTION

Where is the stress?
Then a second panel could show the concrete developmental example:
Eyes together

Hands together

Feet together

Hands + feet meet at center

Midline organizes

Weight transfers

Independent sitting / vertical organization

Short ↔ long visual organization

Movement through the environment
 
And we should build a third structure later for developmental deviations, because your existing CP/deviation materials show that you already have far more sophisticated variation data than a single “typical development” pathway can represent.
