Pulling To Stand

Getting in and out of standing is the milestone, not pulling to standing.
When the milestone or exercise is removed from the organizational sequence.
When “getting into standing” became “pull to stand,” the environment became part of the solution.
The organization moved from the person…
Now the child learns: “I stand because something pulls me into standing.”
Instead of: “I organize myself into standing.”
Those are completely different capabilities.
At 50 years old, there’s no table, no rail, no countertop. Can you get off the floor?
That’s the real question. Not: Can you pull yourself up?
But: Can you organize yourself into standing without borrowing organization from the environment?
That’s why you’ve been emphasizing for years: Transitions reveal organizational capability.
A chair can hide the inability.
A railing can hide the inability.
A walker can hide the inability.
But remove the external support, and the underlying organization is exposed.
A function is not defined by whether it can be performed once. A function is defined by whether the organizational capability remains available as the environment changes.
