What You Can and Cannot Change

Work with Movement Achievement vs a Diagnosis

You are not changing:

  • His diagnosis
  • His corpus callosum structure
  • His neurological wiring

You are influencing:

  • How his nervous system organizes under gravity
  • How efficiently he redistributes load
  • How rotation crosses his midline
  • How much gravity feels "dominant" to his system
That is a very important distinction.

Reframing "Low Tone"

Instead of saying: "He has low tone."
You are saying: "Right now, gravity is stronger than his rotational organization."

That is not pathology language, it's force language.

When gravity dominates:
  • He cannot initiate sit.
  • He cannot lift through the center.
  • He cannot transition smoothly.
  • He avoids midline.
  • He stays in positions that feel safer.
That is a load negotiation problem.

Why Rotation Reduces Gravity Dominance Rotation:

  • Breaks linear compression.
  • Redistributes load across multiple planes.
  • Allows elastic rebound.
  • Reduces the need for brute pushing.
  • Engages cross-body integration.
When rotation increases, gravity feels lighter.
Not because gravity changed — but because load distribution improved.

Why Midline Is the Key in His Case:

Midline is not just "crossing hands", midline is:
  • Cross-body torque transfer.
  • Left-right integration.
  • Chest-spine coupling.
  • Vision-spine alignment.
  • Load equalization.
If midline is weak:
  • Rotation fragments.
  • Load stays linear.
  • Gravity feels heavier.
  • Sitting becomes a push instead of a rise.

Your Intervention Strategy

When you use specific rotational touch through:
  • Sternum
  • Ribcage
  • Thoracic spine
  • Pelvic cross-pattern
You are:
  • Giving him rotational access.
  • Giving him cross-midline torque.
  • Reducing linear compression.
  • Teaching his nervous system an alternative to pushing.
That can influence the organization. Not structure. Organization.
