Hello Proactive Parent, Grandparent, or Therapist,
One subtle difference I noticed with my daughter, Christina, this week after I did ML on her came when walking into the grocery store. I am always pulling her to some degree as I walk, and this time she walked right with me. I didn't have to do any pulling, It was cool!
Julia is finally off oxygen, which means her breathing is optimizing.
Margaret can maintain sitting and spin herself around in circles to self-play a bit. The right arm is still pretty useless, but occasionally it moves.
BIG SUPRISE this week, Margaret is actually getting a few words besides mom. Her new words this week were "Bug," "Silly," "Dad," and while there were no words, it seemed like she was actually trying to sing along to a song from the movie Frozen. The fact that I am getting any language means that I am doing some good stuff with her. I am pretty proud of myself for that. It's exciting to know I can help her when just recently her PT was just canceled due to the therapist moving.
Alice continues to practice jumping and is actually getting some air. We still have some work to do there, but again, things are optimizing.
I would love to hear about your wins this last week while doing ML with your kids or even your struggles.
I know one struggle many parents have is working with an active child. I had two sessions with my 3-year-old son Daniel this last week on the pubic bone strike and working on convergence. He was super active during those sessions. Those might be worth a watch if you want some insights on how to work with an active child. If you are in an ML subscription program, you can access those videos by going to the ML Product "Archived Do ML With Me (Zoom Recordings)" and looking under the sections "Pubic Bone Strike" and "Vision." If you have yet to join a subscription program, I recommend getting into the Fast Start Support Program (which is being changed to the Optimal Development Program). You get 60 days free access and can watch Zoom sessions I do with my kids on a weekly basis, CLICK HERE to join this program. REMEMBER, don't try watching everything (that creates feelings of overwhelm); find topics that are relevant to your situation so you can gain insights on how to more effectively work with your child.
Above is a picture of my ongoing house project (If you can' see the picture, approve blocked content for this email). My husband has been building walls for me (for the last several months) so I can get everything organized and labeled. For ONE, everyone knows where I would put things away, and for TWO, ultimately, I want to spend less time cleaning and more time with my kids.
By building shelving that equal-sized clear totes can fit into and labeling the totes, my kids and husband are more likely to clean up because they know that if they put things away in the right place, I am not going to come and redo their work. It's still an adjustment to get them to do it, but it's one I am going to stick with teaching them because, in the long run, it's going to make everyone happier.
This last week, my husband got our library wall built, so I could finally get all our books and give them a place. Are my kids still leaving books out everywhere? Yes, but that will change with time because now THE BOOKS HAVE A PLACE! You may think, "They still won't get it." but what is cool about the way I am organizing is that I am using the principles of Movement that Michelle teaches to keep my home clean.
I won't go into too much detail now, but this cleaning method will work unlike anything else I have tried over the last twenty years of my life, and especially over the last eight years of having children. As you open your Sunday night emails, I will share little hints with you about how I am using gentle touch, rotation, momentum and tonus, weight transfer, counterbalance, and midline crossing.
It's as exciting for me to see optimization and progress in my house work and family relationships as well as in my children's optimal development. Stay tuned for more movement and organization tips!

On Monday, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:55 a.m. MDT, I will work with my 7-year-old on Speech and Facial Nerves (I am feeling mom guilt for dropping the ball on helping her regain speech functions. I am going to focus this week's efforts on speech with her. Not just ML, but she has a speech pad, and we do ASL. I am going to make a better schedule to work on these things with her consistently as well as ML)

On Monday, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:55 p.m. MDT, I will work with my typical 6-year-old (for 30 minutes) on Jumping (I noticed her trying to jump up and get the monkey bars this last week, and she does not have that milestone movement in her body)
And I will work with my typical 8-year-old (for 25 minutes) on increasing momentum in the pelvis.

If you have specific lessons you would like to see me do with my kids, please reply to this email and let me know.
Parents and professionals have loved this unique insight into my home movement lessons; I hope to see you there, too!
My goal is to encourage you to make your own ML schedule with your kids and then organize your lives to stay true to that schedule. It's okay if my times do not work for you. Make a schedule that does, and then start consistently doing your movement lessons.
Remember to define the exceptions to your schedule so that you don't beat yourself up for not sticking to it, and then stick to your schedule otherwise. (Like when I go out of town, and I am not with my kids, I am not going to beat myself up for not being able to work on them) Sticking to a schedule is critical to seeing change and feeling like you are genuinely making a difference in optimizing your child's development as you give them optimal movement experiences.
